winter things

Toronto has been in a deep freeze for what seems like forever.  I've been trying my best to stay cheerful.  Here are some of my ways..

Sweat.  Every day.  For me that means treadmill running and yoga and my cheerleading workout classes.

Bake.  Granola works.  Warms the house and makes for tasty breakfasts.

Go to the library.  Bring home a stack of books.  Draw a bath.  Add epsom salts. Read.

Wrap up in a blanket (or two).  Boil up some fresh ginger tea.  Add a squeeze of lemon.

Make juice.  Or smoothies.  Daydream of the tropics while drinking.

Blue Plate Special

"Francois and I sent each other almost daily letters on tissue-thin airmail paper. When I got home from work to find a letter from Francois on the table, I took it up to my room and opened it and savored it.  His letters warmed me, gave me joy and hope."

incoming mail

These lovelies were sent to me from Phillipa + Larissa.  Just Because mail is the best mail indeed.

P.S. Thank you Larissa for the awesome vintage stamps tucked inside your letter!

Eating For England

So far this winter has been a proper one: snowy and cold.  Just like I remember my childhood winters.  This has lead to me reading even more than usual.  Right now it's Eating For England.

"Afternoon tea may be the only meal we take that is purely and utterly for pleasure.  Perhaps this simple fact is what keeps its popularity steady, not just with tourists looking for the English experience, but with ladies who gossip, lovers of a certain age, aunts treating nieces and nephews, and those celebrating a birthday.  It is something that exists purely to make us feel good about life."
